British Army flags

The British Army Flag (also known as the Army Ensign) is the official flag representing the British Army. It features a crimson red field bearing the Royal Arms of the United Kingdom in the centre, symbolising the Army's direct service to the Crown.

The current design was officially adopted in 1938 and is flown at Army establishments, barracks, and headquarters throughout the United Kingdom and at British Army bases overseas. It is hoisted and lowered daily in accordance with military protocol, typically by the duty NCO, and is saluted during formal parades and ceremonies.

In British flag precedence, the Army Flag sits below the Royal Navy's White Ensign and the Royal Air Force Ensign. The Union Flag takes precedence over all service flags and is used at military funerals in place of any regimental or service ensign.

The Army Flag may not be used as bunting or decoration, nor draped over a coffin at a military funeral, where the Union Flag is the only permitted flag.
